GIS Outreach
GIS Career Fest: Fall 2007
ASU and the Arizona Geographic Information Council (AGIC) recently hosted the second annual GIS Career Fest during the Fall Semester of 2007, after a very well attended and successful 2006 GIS Career Fest. The goal of the GIS Career Fest is to bring local GIS practitioners to campus to meet with geospatial students. This provides GIS practitioners a venue to impart future workforce needs and allows geospatial students the opportunity to research and prepare for future employment.
Numerous organizations from state and local government as well as the private sector were represented at the Career Fest. Each organization had a table in the banquet hall where they presented their GIS needs as well as the skills that they are looking for in potential GIS employees.
Students listened to a panel of representatives from GIS organizations discuss GIS needs and then had 90 minutes to visit individual organization’s exhibits. Students were able to use this opportunity to see what types of jobs are available, which ones meet their interests, and what skills they should be focusing on while they are in school.
This event was covered in AGIC's December newsletter. Click
